Dear Madam, Dear Sir,
welcome at the IGU Storage Committee Database portal. The data on UGS facilities were collected during 2018-2022 triennium and provide an overview of UGS status and its outlook. We would like to use this opportunity and thank to all gas companies and association which contributed with the data for this portal.
Storage provides general benefits for the entire gas infrastructure, not only for balancing of gas grids but it also helps the final customers to get their gas in efficient, reliable and secured way. The UGS Database SG has been established for the first time as a part of the International Gas Union Triennium work programme 2000-2003 as Basic Activity and since then, it provides valuable summary of UGS activities worldwide. The study has been constantly improved over trienniums and is complemented by below mentioned additional deliverables
- UGS Data viewer
- UGS facts in Charts & Tables
- UGS interactive map
- UGS vocabulary in fifteen languages
- Study from the previous triennium
For unregistered user, selected data are available. Detailed data including their exports are available only to members of IGU Storage Committee and contributors after registration.

- Study group SG2.2
(led by Amer Abdel-Haq, Germany): Defining best practices in UGS operations. Focusing on technical and geological challenges of H2 storage and gas emissions of CH4 and H2 and the ways how to limit them.
- Study group SG2.3
(led by Carole Le-Henaff, France): Operating UGS in today's gas markets that includes support for renewable energy and grid balancing. Advocating IGU positions and opinions on the selected prioritised topics towards key institutions and industry stakeholders to support the joint strategic interests of IGU members, increase IGU's visibility, credibility and influence on future policy and regulatory developments.
